To all,
This is another tale relayed to me by a female fighter of Moh.
She had started working in the old Vancouver location on Fraser Street.
It would be back in the early 80’s.
This guy comes in and says he is looking for lessons.
The manager talks with him and finds out the guy is a black belt in another system.
Even so, he signs him up for the intro program.
The guy starts the class and she is his instructor.
Part way through the class he doesn’t come out and challenge her outright.
But his intention is clear; he thinks he is better than she is.
They set up for a “friendly” sparring match (one pass for the fun of it).
He moves and she tags him, so he moves again.
But this time he is faster and again she scores cleanly on him.
This goes on for several minutes and it quickly becomes evident.
He was there to challenge an instructor (he got his wish).
He was there to show his fighting skill (he succeeded in that too).
He was there to kick butt and take names (well, two out of three ain’t bad).
He left after that and he did not return.

To all,
I find it amazing that we have a system of martial arts that has a heavy female influence.
Yet few will make even the most basic acknowledgments of female input into Moh.
According to “Walking a Tiger’s Path”, between M. Hilbig and O. Simon, they started their own studio.
M. Hilbig and O. Simon were instrumental in the development of Canadian Martial Arts (in my opinion).
M. Hilbig was an extraordinary woman in the field of martial arts (especially Canadian).
M. Hilbig was a powerful tournament competitor, often fighting men who were much bigger.
And she was Canada’s First Female Black Belt.
Next, we have Olaf’s second wife and her contributions to Moh (good and bad).
This former president of Simon Kung Fu Studios Inc. left her mark on Moh (again, in my opinion).
There were several others, R. T’s wife, D. P.’s wife, B.K.’s wife and several others, as well.
Surely I am not the only one who knows of their contributions!
Please, speak up and share with us what you know.
