Mystery Man, those vids are way too dark! I could still make out what you were doing but just barely, it was a good reminder though!

Hello Cam,
I agree about the vids.
They actually came out better on my camera.
I think the problem is when I upload them.
I'll redo them in the next few days and correct it.

Thank you Cam, that was a missing link I was looking for.
Hey MrE2me2,
Liked the vids, noticed a few diferances, particularly in your version of the 18 Temple Motions. The form you did is not as "flowery" as the one I know, but some of the motions in yours have more obvious/ direct applications...

To all,
I have made some vids in the daylight.
Thank you Grasshopper, for your kind words.
You'll have to forgive the umbrella tip in the foreground.
It was spotting rain and I did not want to damage the camera.

Mr E2Me2,
Very Nice vids you have been putting up.. Now its my turn to play vampire. I had to tape my edition of Temple Motions in my basement after midnight now.
What I train and what you train as Temple Motions is very similar. The Biggest difference I see, actually, is in the speed. I was taught to do them very slowly, concentrating on the breath. Very much like Tai Chi.

I hope it works. I am going to try it, and see how it works.

Hello Sifu Shawn,
I am very pleased that you have uploaded a different era of the Temple Motions 1-18.
I think that yours look really good.
I would like to note that I was taught to do my motions very slowly, too.
It was only when I was unable to even demonstrate their use at speed that I started to practice faster as well as traditionally slow.
I am curious about your “Breaking the Branch” motion.
It is hard to see but it looks like you are going for the pincer style of break.
Also, your use of angles was mentioned by one of my teachers a long time ago.
But I’d never seen it…until tonight.

Interesting..... Both of your forms are different than the version I was taught. MR E's Is much harder in style, and the footwork is slightly different, as well as in breaking the branch I was taught that the hands roll forward not back. Sifu Shawn's looks quite different, the flow is closer but the stances and footwork are more foreign to me, and some of the hand movements are different or seem to have been changed. To my eye it looks like a couple movements from PHS have been combined with the temple motions. Mr E's would be the closest except for the hardness. But If I remember correctly Sifu Shawn was not taught by TKF directly but from someone who used to teach? So that would explain the major difference there. Also from what was explained to me the temple motions are their own style as is the Kempo's and the PHS forms. They all use different concepts and types of movement. Although they have some of the same movements. For instance the temple motions are about little movement, not big steps or complicated footwork but being compact in your defense. Kempo's would be longer steps or greater movement, use of angles, more complicated footwork etc. Hung would be straight line, and anyone who was in PHS long enough would understand the concept of "movement" in that style. For that reason I believe Mr E's is closer to the true intention of the temple motions. As I was taught at least.
Very interesting to see the differences though. Thanks for sharing those clips.

Hello Pai Mei,
Thank you for your kind words.
It is kinda funny, what you say.
When I saw Sifu Shawn’s version, the flow and speed took me right back to Edmonton.
I changed the “Motions” from the way I originally learned them.
I am unrepentant about it but there ARE marked changes.
Sifu Shawn’s version is about the speed I learned it, to begin with.
Also, the softness of his form is the way I remember doing it.
In my research on martial arts, I have found that changes like this are not unusual.
So I think we can agree that there are at least three or maybe even four versions here.

Hello Sifu Shawn,
That is a neat move!
I now see that you are using almost a heel hook kick to sweep his leg.
That I could do without hurting myself.

To All,
Here is a different version of Temple Motions. This is a student whos Martial lineage is from Master Margie Hilbig. These two segments are Temple Motions 1-36. I apologize it is in two segments and a portions is missing. But there is no question there is a difference between this and what myself and Mr E2Me 2 have posted.

To all,
here is another post.
This is Sifu Ed Bruneau. I have been training with him since 1984. He was an instructor at Simons in the early 1970's. He was taught by Master Trevor Higgs.
He has trained in the Orient for 5 years, he has trained with the Gracies in brazilian jiu jitsu, trained in viet nam, etc. With the exeption of my Kali and Shotokan training, every bit of my Martial Arts knowledge is due to this man. He is a 7th Degree Black Belt under the same organization in which Master Hilbig has her Masters Degree.
This is him performing Temple Motions 1-18
