Simon's Canada Culture Adventure Series Does anyone know where the following titles can be obtained? I visited the Golden Bell Publishing House website earlier today, and Simon's books are no longer listed there. If anyone has a set of these books that you'd like to part with, pm me and maybe we can work out a deal.
1 - Takuan the Manchurian
2 - The Tigers of Sinkiang
3 - The Lost Jade
4 - The Living Arrow
5 - The Soul of Emptiness
6 - The Borders of Heaven
7 - Reincarnation of the Tiger
It seems there's one or two titles missing here (not including 'the White Priest', which I already own). I'm sure I saw some other titles on the website, around 2001-2003. Anyone have the titles for those handy? Thanks!

Well, I guess no one reads his books, or is willing to part with them. Which is it, do you think?

Hello Yen Hui,
Ya just gotta be payshunt :o
For example:
When I first posted "Credentials", it was July14, 2006.
On August 10, 2006, no one had replied yet.
It would take another 11 hours after that before TKF_PHS would respond.
Last time I checked we had 241.430555555 views per day of this site.
Yet there are less than 30 registered members.
Ergo:
Thar be lurkers hyare!
(Lurkers are notoriously cautious.)

The first book (as you probably know), in the adventure series is " The White Priest" followed by the ones you mentioned.
Only this volume and the next two, "Takuan the Manchurian" and "Tigers of Sinquang" were ever published, at least before 2004, I'm a bit out of the loop now.
I own them and have read them all.
I have actually read ALL of Olaf Simon's books (except for the poetry set), and still own about half of his writings...
NO, they are not for sale...
An interesting story. I had 3 copies of "To Hell With Canada" at one time after I left TKF. The following year the wife and I rented a table at a Community Flea Market and I decide to put two of them out for sale to see if anyone would buy them?! Partly 'cause they were taking up space, but also as a little experiment to see how people would react to the title and if they would recognize the author...
Most people walked right by them, maybe give them a casual glance but otherwise ignoring them like any used paperback...
However this one guy whom I had never seen before suddenly scooped them both up, pased me $1 (they were 50 cents each) and scampered off with barely a word as if he had just one the lottery... Since then I have often wondered who that guy was...
I think you can find some of his books for sale on Amazon.com. You used to anyways

Well, that's a darn pity, grasshopper, as I was truly hoping to at least score 'The Lost Jade'. Btw, if you have his book on 'Strength from Within', I'd love it if you would post a small selection of excerpts from it, if you can find the time for it, that is. Many kind regards! ~ Yen Hui

RE books Too bad you didn't post sooner. Being a long time student I was pressured into buying these things to support the "cause". They sat around for quite a while (couldn't read his writing dues to a complete lack of punctuation) so I re-cycled them. The whole collection along with the PHS uniforms, etc. Rather liberating actually. Do youself a favour and read something of actual value.

I probably sold you a few of those books DaveS!!
ignorance was bliss

Re: RE books The whole collection ...
You mean you actually owned all the titles in the Canada Culture Series, including 'The Lost Jade' and 'The Reincarnation of the Tiger'?

Well, I actually want them for the insight they might provide regarding Mr. Leishman's teachings. Leishman did'nt place much credence in Simon's life-story, to be sure, but it's my personal belief he was deeply influenced by his (Simon's) general philosophy of fist-art itself. Besides, it seems a little odd, to say the least, that you'd hold such a negative opinion of Simon's books after just claiming to have never read them.
Many thanks for the assistance, MrE2Me2! I e-mailed Simon's Golden Bell
Publishing House about a week or two before I started this thread; and I
asked them two questions: 1, Why GMS's books were no longer listed on
their website, and 2, If the Adventure Series was still in print. As of today,
they still have not replied to my e-mail, so I took that as an indicator that
they have stopped distribution for the time being, and maybe perhaps for
a long time to come.
Now, of the 8 titles in the Adventure Series, only the first 3 titles are listed
at Amazon.com, and only 1 of those 3 is currently in stock at Amazon. If
you look again at the Amazon page, you'll notice that it says the other 2
titles might ship in 4-6 weeks. That means Amazon needs to order them
from Simon's publishing house, but since the GBPH has'nt replied to my e-
mail yet, (and I don't anticipate they will,) I don't think Amazon will have
any success restocking those two items any time soon!
Since starting this thread, though, I've acquired volumes 2 and 3 of the
series, and am now just waiting for more feedback about whether or not
volumes 4-8 have ever been published before. grasshopper seems to
think they never were, but if they were, then I want to try and acquire
them. Kind regards ~ Yen Hui

Hey Yen Hui
I think that you are out of luck, the only books from the adventure series that were ever released were the first three. We kept getting told that the lost jade was on its way but it never made it to the studios while I was there. Last time I taught in the studio was may of 2005 and nothing then either. Sorry but your only bet would be Golden bell house website but it does not look like that is going to work for you either.
thanks

On the Teachings of the White Priest in TKF Studios Hello to All ~
I would like to hear from past and current TKF Instructors about their view(s)
of the philosophy of kung-fu presented in the pages of THE WHITE PRIEST.
Was it taken seriously by the masters? And did they teach it to both the
Instructors and student body? I am curious to what extent the Program
incorporated, or was modelled upon the Teachings of this particular book.
Kind regards,
Yen Hui

I can only answer for myself here.
While I actually read this book, once, it was not considered to be a training manual.
I speak now for myself, my teachers and my former students (while I was with them).
I don’t really remember the book very much although some pieces do stick out.
There were many other things that I learned that did make a major impact.
But this concept of learning and/or teaching from this book wasn’t there.

Hi there MrE2Me2,
Thanks for an honest reply. I delayed my reply in hope that others might
chime in, but it does'nt look as if the interest is there. At any rate, things
may change in time. In the mean-while, would it be fair to say, iyo, that
this book contains the "seeds" of GMS's philosophy of "Temple" kung-fu?
Kind regards,
Yen Hui
