TKF_PHS There are many people who get involved in the arts and never compete. But I guess in your eyes they must be unworthy, or what.. Just wondering if anybody here has ever sparred a kick boxer. A good one? In fact, has anyone ever sparred a real fighter? Well actually yes. I teach kick boxing. I have fought in the ring, I have fought in submission grappling bouts. I hope to be in Manilla next fall in a full contact stick fighting tournament. I am sure that I dont have to explain this to a man of your Martial Expertise, but I think I will anyway. There is a difference between Kickboxing and Kempo. Kempo is just one of many arts. I dont see what training a controlled moo kempo technique has to do with kickboxing which is a full contact sport. Did you know kali and kempo are not the same thing either... There is actually a whole world of different arts out there that all have something to offer anybody who is not completely full of themselves like you are. If by people sharing kempo techniques on this site you find it offensive, then quit coming back.. If you are just here to run people down ,like I have concluded you are, Go ahead, but its a pretty closed minded and pathetic way for someone to act who is both a martial artist and a law enforcement officer. I hope you reperesent the moral and ethical code of a police officer better then you represent the moral and ethical code of a Martial Artist. But I doubt it. sifu shawn /bow

To all, Here are some vids of my student and myself practicing. These are basic block and counter combos. The counter is done against a pad. This is a timing and distance drill more than anything. To all, Here are some more of Jason and myself getting in side kick catch practice. I’d like to say that this was hard work but that’d be a lie. It was a hoot! The hard part was the editing, afterwards. Him catching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf0VDxCIHNc Me catching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZDVuIPzfrw Him catching again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3Yhrhc9OWo A variation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfixHf6W6H0 Still another variation (his second block changes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-7VpQO0YzU I learned this defense early on but it wasn’t something I could use. It wasn’t until I learned how to block that I could really apply it. Regards, MrE2Me2

To all, I am really hoping to inspire others to put their practice on “YouTube.com” It is free and I, personally, would enjoy seeing them. Here are the last of Jason’s slice of class vids from Thursday Oct. 19/06. The first two are defenses against an offset kick with backhand follow up. Jason is defending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfpNEkt4YjM I am defending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnjjjbanwxw The next two are a separate block and then ridgehand defense: Jason is defending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvkYmAKylj8 I am defending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LckVeSGFXkk The last two are a simultaneous block with ridgehand counter: Jason is defending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGpOasQF5JU I am defending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4VTEoe--3g Regards, MrE2Me2

Hey Mystery, I was wondering if you or anyone else on this forum has ever created there own form and if so do you have video footage of it. I have started creating one many times but usually get busy and end up losing it. I was going to start again but this time I am going to video it as I go, that way if I get sidetracked I can come back to it at a later time. Thanks Swollenknuck http://www.myspace.com/swollenknuck "Shedding more sweat in peace means less blood in war"

Hello SwollenKnuck, To the best of my knowledge, no one has come up with a new kata. The closest that anyone came as when Laurie started Kempo 2 right after the salutation. She was preparing to enter Kempo 2 and 3 in a tournament. Your idea about putting one on a vid sounds great. I look forward to seeing it. Regards, MrE2Me2

I was going to start again but this time I am going to video it as I go, that way if I get sidetracked I can come back to it at a later time. Good question. I imagine hardline traditionalists would shoot me for this. But yes I have created katas. As a matter of fact, Myself and a fellow black belt took kempo 1 and 2 and really revamped it and jazzed it up for tournament purposes. Traditional forms really dont fare well on the open circuit. I still teach traditional kempo forms of course. But for anyone looking to stand a chance in tournaments, traditional kempo lacks in the pazazz department. We added a lot of kicks, a kip up, a jumping spinning hook kick and a few Kiai's. As soon as we did that, our forms began winning, and often first place, especially in divisions from white to brown. Black belt divisions however ( especially in forms) can often come down to politics. Judges chose their favorite competitor, not nessesarily who did the best form. And yes, I am willing to tape it and put it on this site. Providing my fellow moderators do not have a problem with it. sifu shawn

Hello Sifu Shawn, How ya been? I would very much like to see your tournament kata. Especially since you’ve already used it in tourneys. Do you use it with music? If not, have you thought about it? Regards, MrE2Me2

swollenknuck- 10-26-2006

Hey Sifu Shawn, I would love to see that as well, I have thought of using kempo in a comp but was not sure how it would do. I saw a fellow do it at the world martial arts games out here in victoria but that was in a younger division and he did not do that well. Have you modified any of the other forms or do you focus on kempo form. thanks swollenknuck http://www.myspace.com/swollenknuck "Shedding more sweat in peace means less blood in war"

Sifu shawn- 10-26-2006

Mr E2me2, I have thought about adding music to it, but I will leave that to the next generation ( younger generation) of competitors. swollenknuckle, I have changed one other soft style form I know, for tournies. Other than that I keep them as tradtional as possible. I just wanted to have something I can do in tournamnets, or that my students can do and have a chance at winning. So I modifies on harder form( kempo) and one softer form, so I have something for each division. My students modify the tournamnet forms to suit there own needs. sifu shawn

Hello Sifu Shawn, I had a student who did add music to her forms (a long time ago). But at the last few tournies, I have not seen any music added to the kata. Is there a separate section for this these days? Regards, MrE2Me2

MrE2Me2- 10-30-2006

To all, Here is Kurt practicing a defense. It’s against the side kick with backhand combination. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJpo1W6VCDY Notice how similar it is to American Kenpo’s “Deflecting Hammer” Demonstrated and explained in Master Tatum’s “Tip of the Week”. http://www.ltatum.com/movies/Week5/TipOfTheWeekMedW5.html There are obvious differences like rear blocking arm and such. But the overall theme of Kurt’s defense, as I taught it to him, is very similar. I have not taken this defense from American Kenpo. (If I had, I’d certainly give credit to them for doing so.) And when I teach it this defense; I make mention of the fact that American Kenpo has “Deflecting Hammer”. Regards, MrE2Me2

Mr E2Me2 had a student who did add music to her forms (a long time ago). But at the last few tournies, I have not seen any music added to the kata. Is there a separate section for this these days I suppose it depends on the tournament. I know here in alberta, there are a lot of divisions. Ranging from traditional, to musical, to creative to team kata. Hard and soft divisions for forms as well. There are a lot of impressive young people. The Ging Wu club from Edmonton and Arashi-do karate put out some very impressive competitors in the forms divisions. They put out good fighters to. sifu shawn
