kempo 1
I feel like talking tonight so I thought I would discuss kempo 1 throughj my understading. I will not post videos but I will try to explain the essence of this form. It teaches explosive motion and the rapidly decreasing of distance and should aways be trained with proper breathing. first i will describe the breathing for it is most important. start with a sigh(in through the nose ouy through the mouth).then inhale hold your breath before you move. then with your mouth closed holding your breath explode into motion to the first punch( sharply exhaling through the mouth after punch or sound fosusing). softly inhalining hold breath and repeat same for all 4 finishing punches. after last punch soft breathing for the salute. each section of 4 should be completed in 1 second. without the short pauses 4 seconds for the form. two analogies help to understand this form. 1) you have to imagine yourself as a peaceful mountain that is a dormant volcano. itr is calm and tranquil then erupts into a raging volcano without warning rapidly destroying everything in its path. then it returns to being a peaceful mountain. ( this is the feel) 2)with the breathing you imagine yourself like a balloon when you inflate it and hold the stem it has form and tensions you can poke it and it won't pop unless you use something sharp. once you let go of the stem it deflates with none of these properties. your mouth is the stem. this is why your mouth stays closed from inhalation until exhalation or sound focus. by training this way you develop an amazing ability to take punishment and still decrease distance rapidly to execute your finishing blow or blows. it is a key to developing what others call iron body. like the meditation though these theories must be incorporated into all your training in order to recieve maximum benifet. practicing slow and correct is good for loosening up and learning the motions but it must be practiced this way to gain combat value from it. if you have been reading these entries of mine you may say combat, combat why always combat. well it is a martial art and many forget that. yes it gives other benifits and yes you never put yourself in a position in order to use it but that is why you train it that is why it was created. real life combat not tournements. life or death ,survival that is what you should train for and that is what i was taught that is why i teach. so if you like it ask for more if you don't tell me to stop. i have decided i like this sight and i don't mind at all sharing my experiences for free. yours sincerly trevor "The truth sets you free and it is free" by the way hung 1 is trained the same way exept instead of working on a 360 deg plane you work on a 180 training hidden distance and the straightening and the alighnment of the spine for power instead of square striking ( put together the theories and you have a devastating form of fighting) as a matter of fact the understanding of the straightening and flexing of the spine if understood allows very powerful kicks as well where you won't bounce off with the strike but remain rooted even if opponent is charging toward you and is heavier than you. this also is derived from these two forms. it is always the ones of forms that will if trained properly which will form the martial artist.
