Kempo 1 2 and 3 (or Awakening of the Dragon)
To all, I have been a busy camper this afternoon. Here is “Wakening of the Dragon, sections 1, 2 and 3” Kempo 1 In the darkness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Bwpqw6j044 Kempo 1 in the daylight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8SV-gAC14g Kempo 1 and 2 in the daylight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJWs9WzyKYU Kempo 1, 2 and 3 in the daylight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J91msSFgiB8 Regards, MrE2Me2

Mr E2Me2 It is kind of cool how our forms are so very similar there is no mistaking that they are from the same "lineage" for lack of a better word, just some minor diffrences. Sometime this week, I will try to post what I do as kempo 1,2, and 3.. But really I am kind of relieved to see how similar they are in light of how totally different Master Hilbigs kempo forms are from what I do. Kempo I is the same as ours, but from kempo II on, hers is totally ( and I mean totally) different then what you and I do. I think hers is a direct form from Ed Parkers kempo system though.... Hello Sifu Shawn, I agree, it is very cool how our forms are so similar. Do you realize that we are probably the first online guys to post Kempo 1, 2 and 3? It is only since coming to this forum, That I have learned that Master Hilbig’s forms differed fromOlaf’s. I am looking forward to your vids! Regards, MrE2Me2

Actually I think R. Shergold may have been the first to post, though Mystery Man I think you have been the most open with sharing your knowledge and experience. I wonder if that makes ole'olaf happy or if it really tees him off! Here you are sharing all these "secrets" and all! Sifu Shawn, do you know Master Hilbig's variation of the Kempo form? That is something I really would like to see! It is intriguing to think of how many other variations of Kempo are out there. Like him or not, Simon has had an influence on the development of MA in North America, though mostly Canada. In a sense Simon has built his Martial Art empire, though I don't think it turned out the way he had planned!

Hello Cam, I stand corrected! And come to think of it... Our own administrator, Grasshopper, has Kempo 1, 2 and 3 up, as well.. They are on his website under video clips. My apolopgies to both, Master Shergold and Grasshopper. Yet it so cool to see our forms up there too. Regards, MrE2Me2

Nice, again some differences though. I still notice your way of doing the Moh system seems harder than what I was taught. And the flow of the kempo's is different.I was taught to alternate between hard and soft in those forms. That the linear blocks and strikes should be hard, and then the more circular motions done softly. I also notice alot of different hand motions than I was taught, seems like alot of short arm techniques that were not in the version I learned. Mine is as grasshopper said "more flowery" with longer hand motions. And some of the stepping is slightly different as well. I can definitly see they are two different interpretaions of the same form though. Looks like you have spent some time on those. Pai Mei

MrE2Me2- 09-21-2006

Hello Pai Mei, Actually, I learned a “flowery” version of Kempo 1, 2 and 3 when I was in Edmonton. But then I moved to Vancouver. My teachers there had learned the version you see and that is what I train today. Regards, MrE2Me2

Cam I do not personally know Master Hilbigs Kempo forms( I would also like to point out that her temple motions is considerably different). Kind of a long story. The Chinese Boxing Connection which was founded by Sifu Ed Bruneau, has 2 schools. One in Innisfail and one in Stoney Plain which is just outside of Edmonton. Sifu Ed McIsaac, who runs that club is the 2nd highest rank black belt in our System next to Sifu Ed Bruneau. But Sifu Ed Mcisaac , learned a large part of his kempo through Master Margie Hilbig. So even though both clubs are Chinese Boxing Connections, the kempoe influences are very different. His Kempo forms and Temple Motions are from Master Hilbig, while My Kempo forms are from Sifu Ed Bruneau , ergo Master Trevor Higgs. The kempo forms as I was taught them are more of a medium style. Not really soft( like the tai liu chuan fa system I train) but also not really hard ( like shotokan ) they are kind of down the middle , maybe even leaning a slight bit towards the hard end of the spectrum. However on the other side of the coin, Sifu Ed has done both a hard and a soft version of kempo. The soft one being very similar to what you see Richard Shergold doing on Grasshopper video page. I'll see what I can do about getting some of Master Hilbigs Version of the forms posted for you. In time though.. I am a busy beaver, and I only have so many hours in a day. sifu shawn

To all, Kurt has not practiced Kempo 1, 2 or 3 in about 2 years. Here are his first and fifth attempts at it since then. First time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrDVIL88QPI Second time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqkaaNWs-5w Here are a couple of applications from Kempo 1 The first is against right punch First view http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8NnvKC7YDo Second view (notice his foot movement) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LIlPSi_m3w The second is against a left punch First view http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk9fJigSOb4 Second view (again, notice the step) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9gS5JyDbzQ Regards, MrE2Me2

To all, Tonight I have some variations on theme. These are all based on the stepping from Kempo 1. It is taken from the “arm break” part of the form. I never noticed how I so obviously flapped my arms off to the side before. Someone commented about the students of Mo doing this earlier. The second vid actually looks like I’m assisting him in the application of the hold. This is not the case, although I am not vigorously defending either. It is a simple practice drill, nothing more. Ordinarily, I do not practice grappling. Yet there are exceptions to this rule. Here are three: Kurt applies a rear choke http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQEYsN72xmI Kurt applies a full nelson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHuZIkmIc-g Kurt applies a figure four hold http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpM-ZbVQUTw Regards, MrE2Me2

Hello all, had a few minutes though I thought I would video kempo 1-3 and place it on our site so we can compare notes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4doyVpghxrE All critique is welcome. sifu shawn

Hello Sifu Shawn, I am greatly pleased to see more Mo forms on the net. I find it as interesting to observe the differences between our eras, As I do to observe the similarities. I also find it interesting that both eras have forms that are just over 1 1/2 minutes long. Regards, MrE2Me2

Sifu shawn- 11-15-2006

To all, Here is some footage from a student, again whos Martial Lineage is from Master Margie Hilbig. This is Kempo 1-4. Notice kempo 1 is the same as My self and Mr E2Me2 and also the same as what grasshopper has on his home page( I mean its the same within reason, all versions have been similar with slight differences) but when kempo 2 starts, it takes on a brand new life of its own. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDIkJrenHbI sifu shawn

Sifu shawn- 11-15-2006

Mr E2 Me2, I find it as interesting to observe the differences between our eras, As I do to observe the similarities. Yes it is neat to see the differences and similarities between our forms. What do you make of the differences between our form and Master Margies Kempo 1-4 form.??? Very interseting isnt it. sifu shawn
