To all,
I am just curious if anyone has heard from Master Trevor Higgs at all in the last while.
I seen him last, about two and a half years ago.
I have a friend who trained in shotokan for years who was a private student of Master Higgs. He trained with him in Calgary, in Master Higgs basement. Primarily just sparring and conditioning.
They would also hitch up at Phil Mcandrews school to train as well.
I assume everyone knows that Phil Macandrews died a few years back?
If not , well he did. To the best of my knowledge it was from complications due to his diabetes. I guess he did not monitor his insulin intakes close enough.
At least thats what I was told. I do know he passed away however.
So maybe when reading this , give a moments silence to remember a past Master of Moo Kempo.....

Hello Sifu Shawn,
There are, indeed, certain advantages with this kick.
It is also easy to learn and apply.
The major drawback that I see it having is it leaves the groin open.
It is open underneath from beginning to end.
It actually wasn’t taught in Vancouver for this reason.
I include it now for a couple of reasons.
It is very powerful.
It is versatile (as you pointed out).
And it is easy to use.

Hello Sifu Shawn,
Please forgive the lateness of this reply.
It’s been a while since I posted on this thread.

”I like this example of the side kick.”
I use it and I teach it but it has definite and serious drawbacks (imo).
It leaves the groin open and others can see it coming.
As I see it, for every advantage there is an equal and opposite disadvantage.
Nowhere is this truer than in this kick.
I have knocked people out of the room and I have knocked them down with this kick.
But I have also had my leg caught and been counter kicked more than once.
