Hey C.S.
Yes I heard that story, I believe it was told to me by the same person that told me (and others) that simon had translated the writing on the walls of the Shaolin Temple.
Call it a puked up story or whatever you want, it is true, I heard it and it wasn't from some over-achieving student instructor it was a Head Instructor! I just can't remember if it was Marinic or Demetrius!
Nope definitely was not Mr D. I fact he laughed when I asked him. He said he had not heard that one before. Either it was Mr Marinic or you do not recall correctly. Either way it's ridiculous gossip that even school girls have enough self respect not to spread.
In the current studio there were some students spreading around a story that Mr S could do kempo 1 in 3 seconds. Mr Swanstrom caught wind of it and tracked down one of the students spreading the story. He wanted to know who started it but the student would not say. He then explained to this student how ridiculous it was to and to stop spreading false stories. He never found out where it started but it was not from him or his Jr. instructor.
So these originate from all over it's not fair that you suggest that it was GMS's administration that created them. Yes some instructor's and i bet even some masters may have been guilty of repeating them when they should not have. But it all illustrates my point that the real stupid part of a rumour is repeating it.

Hello Current Student,
You posted, “In the current studio there were some students spreading around a story that Mr S could do kempo 1 in 3 seconds…”
WOW! 3 seconds! L.O.L.!
In my day, the myth was four seconds to do Kempo 1,
That would be in order to make it “combatively effective”.
I just timed my Kempo 1 forms on “youtube”.
They are between 10 and 14 seconds without salutation.
That is about the speed that I remember doing them.
Realistically, I was never able to get it going very fast so I concentrated on timing, instead.

Realistically it could possibly be done in 5 seconds, but there isn't much merit in training at such speed unless you can keep the technique crisp, which invariably it isn't.
My point was that there are still ridiculous rumours that get circulated and their always will be. And yes some if not many originate form the students. The really absurd part is perpetuating a rumour you know is not true.

To all,
Today, December 10, marks the twenty sixth year since I was awarded my Black Belt.
These days, I make it a point to test my people for their belts very thoroughly.
I know who is ready for their test because I teach them.
So the test is for their benefit and not for mine.
It used to be that my people would get tested.
And they would not feel like they were worthy of their new rank.
It would take weeks, sometimes months before this would occur.
Nowadays, I have reversed that trend.
After they successfully pass a test for rank, I’ll award it to them.
And I want them to know they deserve it then (as well as later).
